What to Bring on a Boat Rental: The Complete Lake Travis Packing List
The essential packing list for your Lake Travis boat rental. What is provided, what to bring, and what to leave at home. Covers food, drinks, sun protection, and entertainment.

First time renting a boat on Lake Travis? Here is exactly what you need to bring — and what is already provided on every BananaBoat Rentals trip.
What's Already on the Boat (You Do NOT Need to Bring)
- Captain — USCG-licensed, knows every cove on the lake
- Fuel — included in your rental price, no hidden charges
- Coolers with ice — large coolers pre-stocked with ice
- Life jackets — all sizes from infant to adult XXL
- Floating lily pads — for lounging on the water
- Bluetooth sound system — just connect your phone
- Safety equipment — fire extinguisher, first aid kit, throwable flotation devices
The Essential Packing List
Sun Protection (Non-Negotiable)
- Sunscreen SPF 50+ — reapply every 2 hours. Reef-safe is appreciated.
- Sunglasses with a strap (Croakies) so they do not sink
- Hat — baseball cap or wide-brim
- Lip balm with SPF
- Rashguard or UV shirt if you burn easily
Food & Drinks
- Drinks — BYOB for ages 21+. Cans and plastic only, NO glass containers.
- Water bottles — staying hydrated in the Texas sun is critical
- Snacks — chips, fruit, cheese boards, sandwiches all work great
- Lunch — if you are on a 4+ hour trip, bring real food
Clothing & Gear
- Swimsuit (wear it under your clothes)
- Towels (1-2 per person)
- Change of clothes for after the trip
- Water shoes — helpful for cliff jumping and rocky swim spots
- Waterproof phone case — protect your phone while getting photos
Nice to Have
- Bluetooth playlist — curated and ready before you board
- Waterproof speaker (as backup, but our system is loud)
- GoPro or action camera — for underwater and water slide shots
- Cash or Venmo — for captain gratuity (15-20% is customary)
What NOT to Bring
- Glass containers — banned on all boats for safety
- Styrofoam coolers — pieces break off and pollute the lake
- Pets — not permitted on our boats
- Illegal substances — zero tolerance policy
- Valuables you cannot get wet — things get splashed
Pro Tip: The Perfect Cooler Setup
Pack drinks in a separate bag from food. When you board, the captain will help you load the coolers. Put drinks on ice in the provided coolers, and keep food items in a dry bag or separate container. This keeps everything organized and prevents soggy sandwiches.
